The biggest question, then, if he's going to stay at Tottenham Hotspur is as to whether he'll sign a new deal at the club to signal his long-standing commitment.
As mentioned before, Bale already signed a new deal at the start of the 2012 season, so he doesn't need to sign a new deal with them, per se. But given all the pressure currently surrounding the club and the Wales international, signing a new deal would send a strong suggestion that he isn't leaving Spurs any time in the near future and would no doubt give the London club a huge boost as a result.
According to the BBC, speaking after Bale was crowned the PFA Player of the Year two weeks back, Villas-Boas said that "it would be good for him to sign a new contract." He also added that he thought Bale "deserves it for the season he's had" at Tottenham, suggesting that a new deal could also include a pay-rise for the winger.
The manager had slightly changed his tune last weekend, when he stated that he was "unsure" whether Bale was signing a new £170,000-a-week deal, as reported by The Independent. He did, however, reiterate that Spurs were confident they would keep the 23-year-old over the summer transfer window.
