Yankees Wairuna Jeter out until after All-Star break

NEW YORK (AP) a' Yankees leader Derek Jeter will undoubtedly be sidelined until following the All-Star break due to a new crack in his wounded left leg. Jeter was injured last October in the opener of the AL championship series. He performed sparingly in spring training and started the growing season rehabbing at the team's minor league complex in Tampa, Fla. After three straight days of workouts, the 38-year-old shortstop went along to Charlotte, N.C., and was analyzed Thursday by Dr. Robert Anderson, who handled last drop. "They did a fresh CT scan which revealed a little crack in the region of the previous damage, so we've to back away and let that heal," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said before New York enjoyed Arizona. "This is obviously a drawback. In terms of speculating on when we may possibly see Derek back with us, we had be looking at some time after the All-Star break." Jeter is among four All-Stars lacking from the Yankees' lineup, joined by third baseman Alex Rodriguez (hip), first baseman Mark Teixeira (wrist) and outfielder Curtis Granderson (supply). Cashman didn't feel Jeter did too much too quickly in his treatment. "Clearly he has not done anything wrong," the GM said. "He was removed to play. This is actually the next CT scan he is had. His preceding two CT scans revealed the healing and 100 % healing. He wasn't cleared for the football actions and cleared to play until he'd completely healing, so this is just a new break, but a tiny one. That is I assume the only real good part. They kept saying the word little. But it is a problem, so it is not just a great situation." Jeter won't need surgery for the split, Cashman said after addressing Anderson. "He said 95 percent of the folks that have this, they keep coming back from it good. You merely need to back off," Cashman said.
