Birmingham City flop, not Van Persie's target, gave name to Manchester United... - Daily News & Analysis

In a dig at Manchester United, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has said that the 2013 Premier League winners won the concept because of rivals Manchester City`s flop show, rather than Robin van Persie`s much-acclaimed target. Several feel Van Persie`s decision to join United in the place of City from Arsenal last summer was the key to the Old Trafford club winning their 20th top-flight title, Sunlight studies. However, the Gunner manager dismissed the speculation, saying that while Van Persie had made an effect along with his performance, the main reason behind United's earning the title is that City dropped off at the last moment from the running. Declaring the champions weren't as much as the job, Wenger said that this year's title race was one-way traffic with United at the peak, adding that the race wasn't as small and close as last year when City was topping the list. Wenger also stated that United could also have seized the subject last season if City`s final-day opponents Qeens Park Rangers (QPR) had not discovered that these were safe from relegation before conceding the extraordinary Sergio Aguero purpose. The Gunners will form a guard of honour for former hero Van Persie and his United team-mates, the report added.
