United boss Fergie said: "If we get to 96 points I'd be absolutely delighted. That would be a fantastic season. If we get to that position, we have probably won the league."
Fergie is stunned to be racing away with the title in March, having lost out on goal difference to Manchester City in the final seconds of last season.
He added: "With Manchester City coming on the scene and Chelsea and Arsenal and Spurs, you have teams vying for that top-four position.
"I expected it to be really tight. After last year we wanted to make sure we didn't lose it on goal difference — and that has improved markedly.
